The growing area is in the Davis Mountains and is surrounded by the Chihuahua Desert . Viticulture is only possible due to the altitude (between 1,370 m and 2,530 m above sea level ) and the higher amounts of precipitation in the mountains. The weathered soil consists mainly of granite , porphyry and volcanic rock.

Currently, only the Pleasant Hill Winery is bottling wines under the name Texas Davis Mountains.
