The 1 Second Film is a non-profit and community film project that aims to raise funds for the Global Fund for Women .

The name came about because the film will last exactly one second. It consists of twelve large single images, painted by many people, which are filmed and shown in quick succession. The end credits of the film, however, will be 90 minutes long and contain a making-of .

Anyone interested can buy a credit for a donation of one US dollar or more as a producer. In August 2007, over 7,700 producers had already participated. The makers of the film were able to win some well-known Hollywood stars for their project, including Kevin Bacon , Pierce Brosnan and Kiefer Sutherland .

From September 2007 to November 2007, the makers of the film planned a trip across the United States in a converted school bus to make their project better known. They also hoped to receive a symbolic donation of one US dollar for their project from Oprah Winfrey at the end of this trip .

The idea for The 1 Second Film came from a student project by Nirvan Mullick from the California Institute of the Arts , who also directs the film.

After the film premiere, it is planned to auction the twelve individual images. All profits from the film will go to the Global Fund for Women .
