The Ancient Gallery is a German rock band .

history

The group The Ancient Gallery (named after a quote from the song “The End” by the group The Doors ) was founded in 1992 by the brothers Robin and Andy “Enni” W., Friedrich M., Convex and Stefan Baier in Eppendorf . Initially, the band limited itself to playing well-known titles from a wide variety of musical styles. Half a year after it was founded, the first public appearance in Eppendorf was held. In the following years the musicians improved their self-taught skills through courses and courses at various music schools. They also released their first demo cassettes ("Origin" & "Fortune Teller") from 1993 to 1995, which helped the band to perform numerous times in their region. In 1997 the maxi CD “Her Sister” was released, on which German-language titles could be found for the first time. Already in this phase of their existence, the musicians started working with artists from a wide variety of professions. It was and is always the aim of the group to offer more than just music. For example, a series of pictures by Dresden artists accompanied the band during their performances. When drummer Stefan Baier left the group for professional reasons in 1999, The Ancient Gallery were in the process of producing their first album. Nevertheless, “Deinstallation” appeared punctually in 2000. For the recordings of the second album “Kopfdelay” the meanwhile only four members were able to win well-known guest musicians; B. Broiler from the Inchtabokatables .

The second album "Kopfdelay", released in 2002, represented the high point in the band's history so far. Concert tours followed, including to Prague , Paris , Budapest , Tallinn and Warsaw . The album was quite well received abroad ( Eastern Europe and America ). Thanks to a collaboration with the Goethe-Institut, a concert trip to Estonia and Finland could be undertaken, during which local artist groups were also included in the program of The Ancient Gallery. The band's music can hardly be classified into existing musical genres. The drummer's departure represented a turning point in that he was now increasingly working with electronic instruments. In the last few years, the band's danceable sound was dominated by hard guitar passages. Singer Robin W. speaks or sings his lyrics to the music in an unusual way, so that it is easy to associate with the theater genre.

In 2004 the album “alles ist nothing” was produced, which will be distributed across Europe for the first time. Atrocity front man Alexander Krull was won as a mixer . The tour that was part of the album took the musicians across Germany and back to the Baltic States , where they played in front of enthusiastic audiences in Estonia , Lithuania and Latvia . In 2005 the group played a "conspiratorial" concert in the Belarusian capital Minsk in order to support the local music scene, which is suffering from massive repression by state power.

The Ancient Gallery also work on remixes for other artists in their own recording studio ("Spunk Cave"). In recent years, new versions of songs by other bands such as Terminal Choice , Das Ich , Nik Page or Zombie Joe have been created . In 2006 the band surprisingly announced their breakup. It is currently uncertain whether the musicians will be involved in new projects.
