The Ascent at Roebling's Bridge is a residential building in Covington , Kentucky . Designed by the internationally renowned architect Daniel Libeskind , the building stretches along the Ohio River across from the Roebling Suspension Bridge . It was commissioned in 2004 and completed in March 2008 at a total cost of $ 50 million.
Some newspapers, including the Cincinnati Enquirer and the Wall Street Journal , associated The Ascent with the trend towards " signature architecture " in residential buildings.
design
Libeskind, who was a professor at the University of Kentucky at Lexington in the 1970s , said the Ohio River and Roebling Bridge inspired him for the design. The 89 m (293 foot) high building has 22 stories and ends with a sloping spiral roof. The Ascent has 19 floors of luxury condominiums, a lobby, a guarded parking area, and a floor with communal facilities such as a playroom for children.
The main structure of the facade consists of seemingly arbitrary concrete segments, the gaps of which are closed by glass fronts. The distribution of the rectangular concrete and glass segments, which are the same in shape, area and orientation, is reminiscent of a digital system.
The Office Studio Daniel Libeskind worked with GBBN Architects, THP Limited and KLH Engineering to the building structure.
