The Band of Heathens (German: Gruppe von Heiden) is an American Americana band from Austin ( Texas ) that has existed since November 2005.

The three front musicians Colin Brooks, Gordy Quist and Ed Jurdi, all singer-songwriters , initially performed with their own songs, but began more and more to take the stage together, every Wednesday at Momo's , a music club in Austin, Texas. They were joined by bassist Seth Whitney. The musicians gave themselves the pagan band name due to a printing error in a local newspaper, which announced the performance as "The Heathens". In 2007 John Chipman, also drummer for The Resentments , joined the Band of Heathens .

The band's first two albums were live CDs , Live from Momo’s (2006) and Live at Antone’s (2007). In May 2008 the band recorded their first studio album, produced by Ray Wylie Hubbard . This album reached number 1 on the Americana charts and the Euro Americana charts. In 2007 the band won the Austin Music Award for Best New Band, among other awards .

At the end of 2008 the band came to Germany for the first time and due to the positive feedback there was another 14-day tour in February 2009, followed by concerts in the UK, the Netherlands and Germany in late May / early June. In September and October 2009 the Band of Heathens again completed a successful tour in Great Britain, the Netherlands and Germany and also appeared on a television recording at the Rockpalast in the Bonner Harmonie. On November 27, 2009, the band returned to Momo's Club in Austin, Texas on the occasion of their four-year anniversary.

2010 was also a year with over 200 concerts for the Band of Heathens . a. again in Europe and at the Kilkenny Rhythm and Roots Festival in Ireland. At the end of 2010 the band went back to the studio to record a new CD / LP, which was presented on the European tour in May 2011.

In October 2011, two shows were recorded in Denver for another live CD. A little later, in late November 2011, the management of the Band of Heathens announced that Colin Brooks was leaving the band "to devote himself to other projects." Trevor Nealon, a long-time friend of the band, became a permanent member of the Band of Heathens approved.

The shows still recorded with Brooks appeared in March 2012 under the title The Double Down - Live in Denver . The recordings are available in two separate parts (each with CD and DVD).

In June 2012, the band announced via newsletter that long-time members Seth Whitney and John Chipman were leaving the Band of Heathens for family reasons. Successors were Richard Millsap (drums) and Ryan Bowman (bass). However, Ryan Bowman got out again in 2013. Sunday Morning Record was recorded with the four remaining band members.

The Band of Heathens is under contract in Europe with the German Blue Rose label.
