The Broadway Album is the title of an album by Barbra Streisand .

history

The Broadway Album is one of Barbra Streisand's most successful albums. It received a gold record and four platinum records from RIAA . The album received its fourth platinum record in 1995. Barbra Streisand returned to the beginnings of her career after excursions into the pop genre with her albums in recent years and interpreted melodies from numerous Broadway musicals according to the title . The focus of the album is the collaboration with the composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim . For this album, Sondheim wrote extended lyrics to his songs Putting It Together and Send in the Clowns .

The album was also successful in the charts and reached first place in the US album charts in 1986. Barbra Streisand received a Grammy Award in 1987 for best singer. Producer and arranger David Foster received another Grammy Award for his arrangements.

In 2002 a new CD version was released, which contains a bonus track.
