The Committee is a multinational Black Doom band that was formed in 2007. The core of the group is located in Belgium .

history

The band was founded in the winter of 2007 as a one-man project by Igor Mortis. After a long period of inactivity, the drummer William Auruman joined, who expanded the line-up to a total of six members. At the beginning of 2013 a first EP was released under the name Holodomor , before the debut album Power Through Unity followed in 2014 via Folter Records . On the same label, the second album followed in 2017 under the name Memorandum Occultus . For 2018 the band is confirmed at Party.San .

style

Björn Thorsten Jaschinski from Rock Hard wrote in his review of Holodomor that the EP is about the oppression of Russia and Slavic peoples and assigned the group to Death Doom . A year later, Felix Patzig wrote in his review of Power Through Unity that the group dealt with the content of the Soviet Union . The guitar arrangements are heavy and yet shadowy and fluctuate between “screeching Black and pounding Doom ”. Mandy Malon, also working for Rock Hard , found the sound of Memorandum Occultus to be dark and heavy. The singing varies between black metal screams and deep growls . The speed is also variable. The music is atmospheric Black Metal, into which Doom Metal is also incorporated. In the songs the group also process “ [g] Regorian choirs , auspicious whispers and undistorted guitar parts”. Rüdiger Stehle from Powermetal.de also reviewed the album and assigned it to the Black Doom. The album consists of "a dark, plaintive mood, doomy heaviness and mostly sedate tempo of the beat, in front of which shimmering black metallic riffs and leads sing their subtle elegies". The album sounds marching and merciless and denounces "how the powerful manipulate, instrumentalize and abuse people with the means of real, mental, spiritual, informational warfare in order to enslave them and play them off against one another". In the songs, the group processed flat, atmospheric synthesizer sounds and “ folky acoustic guitars”, while the vocals were growling and accusatory. In a rock-hard interview with Felix Patzig, Igor Mortis stated that it was particularly important to the band to create a certain atmosphere in the listener, so that they had decided to play a mixture of black and doom metal. In addition, one tries to convey "a better picture of the horror, the suffering and the grim reality of historical events". In another interview in the magazine by Andreas Schiffmann, Mortis stated that Memorandum Occultus is about totalitarian regimes and martial aesthetics from the point of view of the rulers.
