content

Cosby plays Guy Hanks, a forensic scientist with the New York City Police Department who retires from the service after winning the $ 44 million lottery.

His retirement is often interrupted by his former colleagues, Detective Adam Sully ( James Naughton ) and forensic doctor John Chapman ( Robert Stanton ), who consult him on difficult cases. Hanks lives with his housekeeper Angie ( Rita Moreno ) and girlfriend Barbara Lorenz ( Lynn Whitfield ).

production

The idea for the show came from David Black and William Link . Link previously appeared on the series Columbo on NBC and Murder Is Her Hobby on CBS. Link developed the series at the request of Bill Cosby, who wanted to create an intelligent, character-related series without visual violence.

The first broadcast began in January 1994 with a two-hour film, the regular episodes aired on NBC from September. The first broadcast took 54th place among prime-time programs. The show's executive producer, William Link, criticized NBC for not promoting the show well before it premiered. Warren Littlefield , president of NBC Entertainment, accused Bill Cosby of not having used his reputation enough to promote the series. In early 1995, William Link and David Black were released from the production team.

Critics expressed the hope that Detective Hanks would do better than Cosby's two previous projects, Here and Now and the remake of the game show You Bet Your Life . Detective Hanks was only 18 episodes and was deposed in February 1995.

Reps have been aired in the UK on ITV and in the US on A&E , Starz Encore and TV One.

The show was filmed by SAH Enterprises in New York City.
