Ron Dante (* 22. August 1945 as Carmine Granito in Staten Iceland , New York ), also known as The Detergents and The Cuff Links , is an American singer , songwriter and music producer .

biography

The multi-talented artist initiated a number of music projects in the early 1960s that consisted of Ron Dante alone. He sang all the voices and then mixed them together to create the impression of a whole choir.

His first project was "The Detergents". With Leader of the Laundromat , a parody of the Shangri-Las title Leader of the Pack , he reached number 19 in the US charts in 1964 .

He later had two international hits as “The Cuff Links”: Tracy (1969, US 9th, UK 4th) and When Julie Comes Around (1970, US 41, UK 10).

At the same time, Ron Dante was the lead singer of the number one hit by the cartoon group The Archies Sugar Sugar (written by Jeff Barry and Andy Kim ) and played a key role in the success of this "band".

In 1970 the first LP was released under his own name, Ron Dante Brings You Up . In 1979 Dante recorded a disco album with the singers Monica Burruss and Toni Lund under the band name Dante's Inferno. In 1981 he released the second solo album Street Angel .

From 1973 to 1981 Ron Dante was the producer of Barry Manilow , where he also often worked as a background singer (including Mandy ).

All along to this day, Ron Dante has worked as a singer for radio and television commercials, as well as a producer and concert promoter.

Two more CDs were released in 1999 ( Favorites ) and 2004 ( Saturday Night Blast ).
