The Divine Wings of Tragedy received a positive response from the press and is often referred to as the band's most successful work. Franco Cappelletti from Babyblauen Seiten praises: “This album doesn't contain a single weak song, not even weak passages.” Michael Rensen from Rock Hard thinks that “every lick fits, every break, every breathtaking guitar / synth solo fits [ ...] without embarrassing swagger and stupid clichés ”and judges that the“ combination of lightning-fast, riff-stressed metal and classic bombast has never sounded anywhere near as convincing ”. Both Rock Hard and eclipsed magazine included The Divine Wings of Tragedy in their respective lists of major prog metal albums.
