The Exploding Boy is a Swedish band from Stockholm that plays post-punk and new wave , based on the style of the 1980s , but also has indie rock influences.

history

The band was founded in 2006 by Lars Andersson and Johan Sjöblom, who had previously played in different bands. Sjöblom was among other things the bass player for the band Fake Moss in appearance. Both had similar tastes in music and started making music together. With three friends they formed the band The Exploding Boy, named after a song by The Cure . They had their first appearance in May 2006 in Stockholm. In 2007 the self-titled debut album was released.

The band quickly gained international recognition. When the band toured Germany for the first time in autumn 2009 , they had already performed at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen and featured several times in Gothic magazine . In the same year the second album Afterglow was released . The Sonic Seducer called the record "overall a pleasant album that is allowed to rotate longer in the player".

The third album, The Black Album , was also released in the United States on the Vendetta Music label . It received international attention and again received positive reviews. The Sonic Seducer wrote that the band proves that they have a pronounced "feeling for beautiful songs with a pleasant touch of melancholy".

On October 18, 2013, the band's fourth album, Four , was released on Drakkar Entertainment . Ecki Stieg wrote about the album in Orkus magazine that the band had "arrived in a league that should be taken seriously", but the album was sometimes "too smooth and problem-free".

The fifth album Alarms! was released on May 18, 2018.

Side projects

Johan Sjöblom has been running a solo project under his last name since 2016. In October of this year he presented the debut album 6 with Sjöblom . In September 2019 the EP A Victory Of Love was released , the title track of which is a cover version of Alphaville's 1984 song .
