Ecki Stieg actually Eckert Stieg (born September 20, 1960 in Rehren / Auetal ) is a German freelance journalist , radio presenter , singer and author .

Early career

After graduating from high school in 1980, Stieg studied social sciences (focus on social psychology) at the University of Hanover from 1982 to 1986 . At the same time, his journalistic career began as an employee, later as editor and editor-in-chief of the events magazine Schaumburger News . He was also a freelancer for various magazines, such as B. Spex or Tempo . Ecki Stieg interviewed around 350 international artists between 1982 and 1986, including David Bowie , Nico , Kim Wilde , REM , Serge Gainsbourg , U2 , Brian Eno , The Cure, Bryan Ferry .

In 1986 Ecki Stieg was one of the founding members of the editorial team at Radio ffn . As a music editor, he was the decision maker for the entire day and night program as well as for the special programs. At the same time he made a name for himself as a discoverer and promoter of new, trend-setting bands and trends. He achieved cult status with the show Grenzwellen and massively promoted new German bands such as Deine Lakaien or Wolfsheim . At the same time, Stieg released several successful CD compilation series, such as B. Electrocity or Night Of Darkness , and recorded the album Vendetta in 1995 with the musician Axel Machens (Breathe, Placebo Effect ) under the project name Accessories .

After leaving ffn in 1997, he continued the Grenzwellen as a successful online magazine and was one of the first German journalists to set up such a portal. By March 31, 2009, the Grenzwellen website had established itself as a commercial download portal for independent music.

He has been writing for the independent magazine Zillo since 1998 and researched and developed numerous biographies for the Zillo Soundnavigator lexicon published in January 2000 , as well as numerous essays for the Gothic book series (Schwarzkopf & Schwarzkopf). In addition, Ecki Stieg organized Grenzwelle evenings and readings (essays) throughout Lower Saxony, and occasionally he also works as a moderator on NDR Info .

From March to the end of September 2000, Stieg was an online editor at IMP / radio.de in Hamburg. His work until the company's insolvency included the creation and editorial support of five full-time radio streams. From November 2000 to December 2001, Stieg was the online content editor at music-united.com AG in Hamburg. His area of ​​responsibility here included editing, creating and maintaining the online presence, as well as creating a background archive (biographies, etc.).

In 2002 and 2003, Stieg worked on creating various online presences, including a. fsr.de. This was followed by reactivation of the Grenzwellen website . Stieg founded the company webtamine GbR , which deals with web design and programming for online appearances.

From August 2008 to September 2009 he was A&R and product manager for SPV GmbH . From November 2009 to March 2013 he worked as A&R and product manager for the company Made in Germany-Music in Hanover.

Stieg continues to work as a freelance journalist and author as well as an employee at Orkus magazine . Since April 9, 2014 he has been hosting the program Grenzwellen again on Radio Hannover .
