The Getaway: Black Monday ( German  Escape: Black Monday ) is a third-person shooter that was released in 2004 by Sony for the PlayStation 2 . The video game is the sequel to The Getaway (2002).

As in The Getaway, the action takes place in the British capital - metropolis London , in 2004. Important people are Eddie O'Connor, a well-known boxer , Sergeant Ben "Mitch" Mitchell, a recently reinstated police officer and Sam Thompson, an IT -Specialist. After a failed bank robbery, the victims seek revenge on the guilty party by killing anyone who stands in their way.

The weapon selection and the melee system have been significantly improved compared to the first part of the game series. There are around 130 licensed vehicles that the player can drive. The developers have also improved the damage model of the vehicles. The US version of the game also includes two bonus vehicles. These are a sports car and a New York taxi. In contrast to its predecessor, the game has an overview map , but HUD displays are again completely dispensed with. The reason for this was still the aspect of making the game as realistic as possible.

Characters

Sergeant Ben "Mitch" Mitchell

Mitchell is generally a calm person, but he can get quick-tempered very quickly. His colleagues in the police force do not have a good relationship with him; only his superior, Inspector Monroe, trusts him. Mitch was in the Army prior to his police career, preparing for his future life.

Eddie O'Connor

A no-fuss guy and the game's main character, O'Connor has boxed in Danny West's gym since childhood. This health club has always supported him, in good times or bad. However, O'Connor got into bad circles by West and became a criminal.

Sam Thompson

Sam is a light, agile and very resilient person. She is extremely athletic and a born hacker , which has earned her a good reputation in the criminal environment. She can optionally die at the end of the game.

Danny West

Danny, who has been a boxing coach for twenty years, now has enough money to fund gambling, crime and his fitness on a large scale. He has his fingers in almost everything, from blackmail to debt collection to bank robberies. He is personally killed by Viktor Skobel at the end of the game.

Jackie Philips

The beautiful and quick-witted journalist Jackie Philips has been researching the rise of organized crime in London for years. She is gathering the information for a book that she plans to publish. In this book the identities of the executives of an Eastern European mafia organization are revealed. This situation puts her in great danger, but she would give her life to journalism. She can optionally die at the end of the game.

Viktor Skobel

The former, very successful statesman was expelled from Estonia in 1992 and is now in the London financial sector. Behind his charming smile there is an unscrupulous core. He has a passion for art, culture and women whom he treats like second-class citizens. He is killed by Eddie O'Connor at the end of the game in revenge for the murder of Danny.
