The Honeydrippers: Volume One is an EP by the supergroup around Robert Plant , which was released on November 12, 1984.

The project began as a request from Atlantic Records President Ahmet Ertegün , who wanted to release an album with his personal favorite songs from the 1950s. Ertegün decided on Plant and his band The Honeydrippers , which already played classics from the 1950s. Plants band included Nile Rodgers , the funk band Chic , Jeff Beck , who was guitarist for the Yardbirds , and Jimmy Page , who had already played with Plant at Led Zeppelin . The single Sea of Love became Plant's greatest commercial success.

According to some Plant biographers, the success of Sea of Love was more of a disgrace for Plant, who originally intended the piece only as the B-side for Rockin 'at Midnight . The radio stations, however, preferred Sea of Love . Plant later confirmed this thesis and said that this was one of the reasons that no further recordings of the Honeydrippers were released. Plant wanted to avoid going down in music history as a crooner .

As part of the Robert Plant Remasters Series , the EP was re-released as an album in 2007. A comeback album is said to have been planned. However, this idea was rejected again due to Ertegün's death in 2006.

Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and Nile Rodgers hid under the producer pseudonym "The Fabulous Brill Brothers", while "Nugetre" is an ananym from Ertegün.
