The Milk Carton Kids are an American indie-folk duo from Eagle Rock, California , USA , consisting of singers and guitarists Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan.
history
Joey Ryan and Kenneth Pattengale formed the band in 2011 after both musicians had already had unsuccessful solo careers. The first album called Retrospect was released under the name Kenneth Pattengale & Joey Ryan . After participating in the SXSW festival in March 2011, The Milk Carton Kids played as opening act and backing band for Joe Purdy on his North American tour, which made the band better known.
The first appearance in Germany took place on April 4, 2013 in Berlin .

The Milk Carton Kids' first two albums, Retrospect and Prologue , were made available for free download from the group's website. By the beginning of March 2019, the two albums had been downloaded there more than 1.5 million times.
Awards
The album The Ash & Clay was nominated for the Grammy Awards 2014 for best folk album .
In 2014 the band received the Americana Award for Duo Group of the Year .
The song The City of Our Lady of the album Monterey was for the Grammy Awards 2016 as Best American Roots performance nominated.
The album All the Things That I Did and All the Things That I Didn't Do was nominated for the Grammy Awards 2019 as the best mix of an album (without classical music) .
Others
The band name The Milk Carton Kids alludes to the past common practice in the USA of printing the photos of missing children on milk packaging.
