The Palpitations (English for palpitations) were a short-lived British rock band who accompanied Eric Clapton on his two appearances at London's Rainbow Theater in 1973 . The recordings were released under the title Eric Clapton's Rainbow Concert .

Emergence

Clapton was addicted to heroin at the time . His friends and his girlfriend's father, Lord Harlech, tried to get him off drugs and back on stage. The Lord persuaded Pete Townshend of The Who to organize the two concerts for Clapton. Townshend brought together the elite of British rock and the band was called The Palpitations . In addition to Clapton (guitar, vocals) and Townshend (guitar, vocals), Steve Winwood (keyboards, vocals), Ron Wood (guitar), Ric Grech (bass), Jim Capaldi (drums), Jim Karstein (drums) and Reebop Kwaku Baah ( percussion ).
