The Pleasants are a Vermont folk duo consisting of Amanda Rogers and Mike Matta .
Band history
After Amanda Rogers engagement with Jupiter Sunrise and the solo album Heartwood , she met the songwriter Mike Matta in the summer of 2009 . In addition to their common interest in quiet alternative music , they were also linked by veganism . The two became lovers. Mike Matta then accompanied Rogers on a guitar tour. After the two sang and composed songs together, they founded the duo The Pleasants. The first joint release was the song Bedroom Songs in April 2010 on Bandcamp . The debut album followed in June 2010. Before a tour in Germany, a European version followed on November 26, 2010 on the independent label Make My Day. The tour was presented by Motor Music .
Music genre
The Pleasants plays a mixture of Americana , blues and folk, which is commonly summarized under the umbrella term roots music . In addition, there are influences from alternative music and indie rock . In addition, there is a textual concept and an image that is reminiscent of the hippie era and above all includes the love for nature. However, the duo does not see themselves as hippies and refers to their love for hardcore punk . Rather, they have not yet found a suitable expression. Occasionally they use the term " naturalists ".
