Barney Bear as a recruit is an American animated short film by Rudolf Ising from the year 1941 .
action
Strife magazine , in its October 29, 1940 issue, reports exclusively as part of the US defense program on the many steps it takes from a simple citizen to a soldier . The magazine tracks how the numbers of those who are soon to be drafted into the Army are drawn from a fishbowl. The number drawn is 0000, which belongs to Mr. Bear. He's just hibernating when he receives a telegram promising him a year's vacation. Accommodation will be provided.
The bear appears at the camp with all sorts of holiday accessories and is about to leave when he sees various cannons and other weapons and accidentally triggers them. He is forced back to the army camp by bayonet . A health check is due there first. The bear is too fat, but with the help of a corset it will be ideal. His teeth are repaired and his flat feet are inflated. The bear is happy when he is allowed to put on his new uniform. He is less pleased with the mile-long walk that he can then set out with all his equipment. In the middle of the march, when his shoes have already caught fire, you see the bear lying in his bed again, sleeping. A spark from the chimney finally wakes him up. Glad that everything was just a dream, he is about to go back to sleep when the doorbell rings. A postman stands outside and hands him a telegram - he has been drafted into the army and this time it's not a dream.
