The Royal Hawaiian Hotel is a hotel in Waikīkī , Honolulu , Oahu , Hawaii , USA .

The 5-star hotel with 527 rooms is located on Kalākaua Avenue, directly on a private beach. It was built in the so-called "Spanish-Moorish style" with bell towers etc. and opened on February 1, 1927 . The historic building is complemented by a modern tower , the Royal Tower . Because of its bright pink paint, it was nicknamed the Pink Palace of the Pacific ( The Pink Palace of the Pacific ).

It is the symbol of the island of Oahu . Before the Second World War it was a popular holiday hotel for Hollywood stars, during the war it was temporarily the residence of President Franklin D. Roosevelt , which is why it was also known as the Western White House .

The Royal Hawaiian has been filmed in several films and TV series: discovered Hawaii in April 1961 , 1977 in Charlie's Angels and 1986 in Murder is her hobby .

The bar at The Royal Hawaiian Hotel claims to have been the first to prepare Mai Tai in the 1920s.
