The Shed (German: Der Schuppen ) is a cultural center in the Manhattan borough of New York . It opened in April 2019.

architecture

The building designed by local architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro is reminiscent of a "moving giant membrane". The costs are around 500 million US dollars , most of which were raised by private donors.

history

The Hudson Yards between Tenth Avenue and Eleventh Avenue represent a development of a railway system on the Long Island Rail Road west of Penn Station . Planning began around 2014 under Mayor Michael Bloomberg , a high-rise district was being built on 11 hectares on the Hudson River .

Role of The Shed

There is no permanent art collection. Exhibitions as well as pop culture events should be possible on 7500 square meters and six floors .
