The Shore is an Irish - British short film feature film released in 2011 . It was produced by Terry George and his daughter Oorlagh George . Terry George directed and wrote the script. The film won an Oscar in 2012 for Best Short Film .

The film is about two childhood friends, Paddy and Joe, who are separated due to a misunderstanding during the Northern Ireland conflict in the 1980s and no longer see each other. Both then live very different worlds. 25 years later, Joe travels back to his old home with his 24-year-old daughter. The film is then about their reunion.
