action

Beth and her husband Harry run a skydiving school. Harry recently fired mechanic Frank for being drunk. Frank's wife Suzy continues to visit Harry, as they both have a relationship. Shortly thereafter, Beth has major problems taking off a light aircraft; obviously the plane was tampered with. Harry tries to break up with Suzy, especially since Beth finds out about the relationship. Frank has also recognized that his wife is cheating on him; Harry catches him tampering with an airplane and threatens to beat him if he ever shows up at the jump school again.

Beth and Harry receive mail from Harry's old friend Joe. Harry quickly hires Joe as a mechanic at the school, but soon reacts jealously to the familiarity of Beth and Joe. Meanwhile, the flight school gets into financial distress, as jump student Pete does not activate his parachute during a jump for an unknown cause and falls to his death. The school must remain closed until the case is resolved. While visiting a bar, Harry sees Suzy again and rejects her. She now wants to take revenge. She buys acid and secretly pours it into Harry's parachute when he is planning a night jump with other jumpers and is currently at the party that has just taken place. When jumping, the acid erodes Harry's umbrella and he dies. Since Suzy and Frank were seen leaving the hangar in a hurry, a hunt for both of them begins, in which they are shot. Joe offers Beth to continue the jumping school with her, but she refuses his offer. He drives and she also packs her things and now goes to her car in all black.

production

The Skydivers was the second film directed by Coleman Francis after The Beast of Yucca Flats (1961). He also wrote the script. The Skydivers was distributed like Francis' first work by Crown International Pictures. The producer was Anthony Cardoza, who also played the lead role as Harry. Jimmy Bryant appears at the end of the film with the songs Tobacco Worm and Ha-So - Stratosphere Boogie . He plays under the title Jimmy Bryant & His Night Divers .

The Skydivers was released in US theaters on November 13, 1963. The comedy television series Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) presented the film on August 27, 1994, where it was commented humorously in the style of the series.

criticism

In the book In the Peanut Gallery with Mystery Science Theater 3000 , The Skydivers is rated as the best of the three Coleman Francis films, which nevertheless cannot be regarded as professionally shot. The film is boring, with equally boring actors, and contains numerous abrupt changes of scene and incoherent scenes.
