The Snow Queen is an American fairy tale and science fiction film by Rene Perez from 2013. It is loosely based on the fairy tale of the same name " The Snow Queen " by Hans Christian Andersen , but combines a plot set in the Middle Ages with one in the Future.

action

The film takes place in two different times, each of which has its own sequence of actions, which later do not merge and are shown alternately:

Gerda and Kay

The film begins in the Middle Ages, when young Gerda walks through the snowy forest and is surprised by her fiancé and knight Kay, who was believed to have been killed in the war. While they kiss, they are watched by the Snow Queen, who enters and kidnaps Kay. Gerda stays behind and follows the footprints of the Snow Queen. To stop her, the Snow Queen revives a frozen knight and instructs him to hunt Gerda. Gerda can escape the undead, who cannot leave the snow. A short time later, Gerda buys a sword at a tournament and wants to hunt the snow queen and free her fiancé. She meets brother Liolinus, who reveals to her that Kay is with the Snow Queen who lives off his love for Gerda, and he warns Gerda not to look for him. When she leaves with Liolinus' helper, brother Richard, he explains to her that she should fight evil and tells her about the entrance to the queen's kingdom. However, he warns them not to attack them until the summer. In summer Gerda penetrates through a waterfall into the realm of the Snow Queen and into a castle where her fiancé Kay lives in a transformed, demonic form. The latter notices her and pursues her, but she can escape through a time portal and thus arrives in the future world, where she meets the Snow Queen. She explains to her that she carries Kay with her in the form of his soul and that she feeds on love. She attacks Gerda, kills her and also feeds on her love.

Annika Hansen and Colonel Wagner

The parallel thread takes place in the near future, when Professor Annika Hansen, together with colleagues Walter and Nichelle, conducts scientific studies in a restricted area and is surprised by Colonel Richard Wagner. Wagner is looking for Valtranz, a man who has stolen modern combat equipment from the army. In a shootout between Valtranz and Wagner, a medieval-clad monster appears and distracts Wagner. Valtranz takes the chance and shoots Wagner, then he goes with the monster. Annika and Walter want to check on the Colonel and find him shot on the snow. He is slightly injured and they are talking about the purpose of the research in the restricted area. Anneke believes in a biphasic being who lives behind an anomaly in the area and absorbs energies from people in love. The researchers bring Wagner to their house, where Anneke treats him and they both talk about love and discover that they are in love with each other. In the meantime, the Snow Queen appears and calls another demon-like creature to help, who attacks Nichelle. When it attacks Anneke too, Colonel Wagner shoots the creature and it disappears. Colonel Wagner and the researchers continue to search for Valtranz, who is under the spell of the Snow Queen, and Wagner succeeds in catching him and killing him. The demonized Kay then appears, whom Wagner also confronts and Annika decides to find the anomaly and to confront the Snow Queen. Together with Walter, she finds the Snow Queen and manages to drive her away with a small pistol. After the Snow Queen disappears, Wagner can also defeat Kay and Annika and Colonel Wagner embrace.
