The Spy is a French - American miniseries directed by Gideon Raff . It is a co-production between the French television channel Canal + and the US streaming service Netflix and, based on the book L'espion qui venait d'Israël by Uri Dan and Yeshayahu Ben Porat, tells the story of the Mossad spy Eli Cohen (played by Sacha Baron Cohen ). The series was published on September 6, 2019 on Netflix.

Maresa Sedlmeir from the Süddeutsche Zeitung writes that the dramaturgy is convincing with its "constant change of location between the Mossad office, Cohen's apartment in Damascus and that of his wife in Tel Aviv". The stories are “cleverly interwoven”, so that “with Nadia's pregnancy as well as with the Morse code news to the Mossad”.
