action

On the run, Yeo-hoon is run over and taken to the hospital. Someone there is trying to kill him. But the attending doctor Lee Tae-jun can take the necessary measures in good time. At home he is attacked and his pregnant wife is kidnapped. Tae-jun is supposed to get Yeo-hoon out of the hospital. However, due to the gunshot wound, the police are already there. The man is to be handed over to a police hospital. Tae-jun manipulates the devices to fake an emergency. He pretends to take the patient to the computer tomograph . But the policeman Jang Gyu-ho follows him. Tae-jun attacks the police officer who can be successful. But Yeo-hoon wakes up and is able to escape.

Chief Inspector Young-ju and her assistant cannot follow him. Young-ju tries to catch him, but is overwhelmed. The police officer Song should take over the case. But Jung Young-ju continues to investigate alone. Meanwhile, Tae-jun holds out his wife's kidnapper and is looking for Yeo-hoon. Shortly before Tae-jun is found by assassins, he learns that the kidnapper is Yeo-hoon's brother. Yeo-hoon suddenly appears and is able to save Tae-jun. Yeo-hoon has not yet been able to reach his brother. He is holding the woman at the disused Yongma Land amusement park in Mangudong. Tae-jun secretly calls Young-joo to arrest Yeo-hoon. But Song also appears and shoots her. Yeo-hoon's brother, Song-hoon, has been located. He sets off while his people want to finish off Tae-jun and Yeo-hoon. But Yeo-hoon is able to free himself and both escape.

In Mangudong they find the dead Sung-hoon. Hee-joo was dragged to a police station. Yeo-hoon wants revenge and convict Song. He finds out that Song is a corrupt cop. The manager of the Myungji building ran it down, which angered the shareholders. Song should get rid of him. They wanted to subjugate the messenger boy Sung-hoon for the murder. However, it went wrong. Song has greased cops everywhere. Hee-joo is also said to be murdered by a police officer. But Yeo-hoon and Tae-jun show up just in time. Song had sent away all the police officers who were not greased from the bureau. Yeo-hoon has already sent them pictures that expose the song. While Tae-jun saves his wife, Yeo-hoon manages to catch Song.

Years later, Tae-jun and Yeo-hoon, who are now the father of a daughter, are still meeting. Meanwhile, Song is shot as an inmate by another corrupt police officer.

reception

The Target opened in South Korean cinemas on April 30, 2014 and reached over 2.8 million admissions. Screendaily's Jason Bechervaise gave the film mixed reviews . The film is entertaining and sometimes gripping, but it lacks the necessary finesse to reach the higher ranks of the thriller genre. The focus on character development is positive, which sets it apart from the French original and appeals to the Korean audience. Director Chang skilfully summarizes the 36-hour hunt with adrenaline-charged action scenes, from chases to exchanges of fire. However, the South Korean thrillers of previous years have set the bar so high that The Target seems rather disappointing despite all that .
