The Tears is a British band formed in 2004 by former Suede members and songwriters Brett Anderson and Bernard Butler.
Band history
Brett Anderson and Bernard Butler played in the band Suede since 1988 , until they fell out while working on the second album Dog Man Star and Butler left the band in 1994 and started a solo career. Anderson completed the work he had started and until the dissolution of Suede in 2003 a total of five more albums were released. Anderson and Butler never exchanged a word during those years.
After the breakup of Suede, Anderson got in contact with Butler and at a meeting in a London pub they decided, despite the previous differences, to resume writing songs together. About this collaboration, which should be all about the music, Butler says: There is only one goal and that is to make a great album. There are no social ambitions, we don't go bowling together.
The result of this joint work is the debut album Here come The Tears , released in June 2005 under the label V2 Records (rough trade) , which consists of 13 songs by the songwriter duo. The choice of the name The Tears is based on the poem Femmes Damnées by Philip Larkin , which ends with the words The only sound heard is the sound of tears .
The first single Refugees was released in April 2005 and rose to number 9 in the UK charts . The song also premiered in Germany on May 4, 2005, when it was played in full on Dasding's UK chart show . In June 2005 the release Lovers followed , which reached number 24 in the UK charts and the album Here come The Tears , also released in June 2005, reached number 15 in the UK charts.
