The Trial is a song by British rock band Pink Floyd from the 1979 concept album The Wall .
content
The Trial is the climax of the album.
After Pink has erected an imaginary wall around himself to protect himself from social contact, he can no longer suppress his feelings and is suing in court. The prosecutor accuses Pink of showing human feelings, which was the case in the previous song Stop . As witnesses, he calls the three people who were closer to Pink in his life than others: a schoolmaster, Pink's ex-wife and his over-anxious mother.
The schoolmaster says he has always known that pink would not end well. It was only up to the artists and do-gooders that he was still walking around freely.
This is followed by the refrain from Pink's point of view, in which he describes himself as crazy.
Pink's ex-wife sings that she is happy that he is behind bars and hopes that "they will throw away the key". She says he should have spent more time with her, that's why she betrayed him.
Pink's mother just wants her son to come back to her, which indirectly notifies the listener that she never wanted Pink to grow up.
Then Pink's chorus sounds again. He says there has to be a way to get out of the wall because he somehow got in there too.
The judge has the final word. He says he has never seen such a severe case in his long career. As a punishment, Pink should tear down the protective wall - which is in line with his intention.
music
The melody of the song and the singing are more like an operetta than a rock song .
Roger Waters uses different accents for the different characters. Waters uses the upper-class British dialect for the prosecutor and the judge, a Scottish accent for the schoolmaster and a northern English accent for the mother.
During the stanza of the judge, the theme of the album is played by Gilmour.
