Ernst-Heinrich Schmidt

Ernst-Heinrich Schmidt (* 1937 in Hagen ) is a German officer ( retired lieutenant colonel ) and historian . He was the director of the Defense History Museum (WGM) in Rastatt and the Margravial Badische Museums and Collections .

Life

Schmidt joined the armed forces after graduating from high school in 1959 and became a professional soldier. He initially served as a troop officer. From 1970 he studied history at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau . In 1978 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. For his doctorate he received the best price in the army.

From 1978/79 to 1987 he was director of the Defense History Museum (WGM) in Rastatt. In 1981 he was responsible for the basic concept of the special exhibition "German Jewish Soldiers 1914-1945". From 1987 to 1993 he acted as a representative for the museum system of the Bundeswehr in the Military History Research Office . Schmidt was responsible for the German contribution to the El Alamein War Museum in Egypt. From 1993 to 1995 he was director of the Margravial Badische Museums and Collections.

Schmidt was u. a. Member of the scientific advisory board of the German-Russian Museum Berlin-Karlshorst . From 2004 to 2007 he was the first chairman of the German Society for Military Music . In 2012 he was curator of the exhibition “Military Music in Baden. At the time of the colorful skirt until 1914 ”at the WGM.
