Roland-Götz Foerster (born January 23, 1937 in Sulzbach-Rosenberg ; † March 7, 2014 ) was a German officer ( Colonel retired) and military historian .

Life

Foerster began his military career in 1956 as an officer candidate . He studied modern history and political science at the University of Munich . In 1974 he started with Fritz Wagner at the Philosophical Faculty I with the dissertation for Dr. phil. PhD .

He later moved with his family to Hecklingen, a district of Kenzingen . As a lieutenant colonel , he became a defense attaché at the German embassy in Ottawa, Canada . The promotion to colonel was connected with a new task from 1987 as head of the department "Training, Information and Specialized Studies" (AIF) at the Military History Research Office in Freiburg , most recently as deputy head of office in Potsdam. In 1995 he retired.

From 1986 he participated in the Working Group for History and Regional Studies Kenzingen e. V. , on the board for over two decades and as editor of the magazine “Die Pforte”. On behalf of the Hecklingen association, he also published the history volume "850 Years of Hecklingen - a village celebrates its history" in 2000.

Foerster was married and had two children.
