Volker Schmidtchen

Volker Schmidtchen (born February 6, 1945 in Wartha , Silesia ) is a German technical and military historian .

Life

Schmidtchen studied from 1969 to 1974 historical science , sports science , romance languages and Political Science at the University of Bochum , where he in 1976 when Albrecht Timm to Dr. phil. PhD and habilitation in 1984 . In 1985 he was awarded the Rudolf Kellermann Prize for the History of Technology .

He taught in Bochum at the Faculty of History and the Faculty of Sports Science. Most recently, until 2010 he was an adjunct professor for the history of technology and military history / security policy at the Ruhr University in Bochum.

He was u. a. Managing Director of the German Society for Fortress Research . Schmidtchen was (co-) editor of the series of publications: “Guidelines for Security Policy”, “Defense Technology and Scientific Arms Science”, “Fortress Research” and “Military History and Defense Sciences”.

Schmidtchen is the owner of a management consulting company and Scientific Director of the "Institute for Economic and Security Studies" Firmitas. He is colonel of the reserve. Most recently, he was a lecturer in foreign and security policy at the general staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr (FüAkBw) in Hamburg. In addition, he is chairman of the scientific advisory board for the awarding of the Werner Hahlweg Prize .
