The True Story of the Civil War is an American short documentary directed by Louis Clyde Stoumen , which won an Oscar .

Stoumen composes his film about the Civil War from numerous photographs, newspaper reports, caricatures , headlines and reenacted scenes. Surveys about the causes and the battles are also included in the film. The conflicting parties with their commanders Abraham Lincoln ( USA ) and Jefferson Davis ( Confederate States of America ) are also presented. There will also be a lecture on the effects of the civil war.
