The Truth About Mother Goose is an American animated short film directed by Bill Justice and Wolfgang Reitherman in 1957.
action
In the film, three fools peek into the real meaning of the popular Mother Goose nursery rhymes:
- Little Jack Horner Sat in the Corner : In reality, Jack Horner lived in London in the 16th century and was supposed to bring a cake to the king. Since valuable things were being transported to the court as gifts in this way, Jack searched the cake and found a certificate of title for a stately home in it. While his employer was later pelted with the now empty cake by the king, Jack moved into the property, where he was haunted by the popular rhyme in his dreams.
- Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary : The rhyme goes back to Maria Stuart , who was raised at the French court and thus quite contrary to the Scots , with the silver bells adornments on her dress, the cockle shells on her love for unusual food Clams , and the pretty maids refer to their numerous maids. It follows the story of their love affairs, the murder of her husband, the marriage to Lord Bothwell, the revolt of the Lords and their exile, the flight to England and their death under the ax.
- London Bridge is Falling Down : London Bridge was built from 1176 to 1209. As a result, a chapel and houses with shops were built on the bridge. The houses were destroyed in the fire in London in 1666, but rebuilt. It was not until the 19th century that the condition of the bridge and the houses had become so desolate that they were thought of with derisive rhymes. In 1823 the bridge was demolished and replaced by today's London Bridge.
The three fools finish their performance. Humpty Dumpty and the moon ask if the statements about the rhymes are true. The fools answer that it is their truth.
