The Turret ( English for the wall tower ) is a rocky and up to 460 m high headland on the east coast of Coronation Island in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . It is on the south side of the entrance to Gibbon Bay .
The British whaling captain George Powell (1794-1824) and his American counterpart Nathaniel Palmer were probably the first to sight the headland in December 1821. Participants in the British Discovery Investigations mapped out a map in 1933 and gave the headland its descriptive name.
