The Warriors is a video game developed by Rockstar Toronto and released for PlayStation 2 and Xbox in October 2005 . The PlayStation Portable implementation was released in February 2007 . It is based on the US film The Warriors of 1979 .

The game was never released in Germany because the USK expressed concerns about being able to label the game. Because Rockstar Games did not want to shorten the game, it was decided not to publish the game in Germany , despite previous PR and advertising efforts . However , the game is available in Austria and Switzerland .

The game is considered by experts to be one of the best film implementations ever.

action

As in the film, it's about the gang The Warriors , who are falsely accused of killing the leader of the riffs , Cyrus, at a gathering of all New York gangs. The warriors are now being chased across town by all gangs. But that only takes up about the last third of the game's plot. Before that, the player takes control of one of the nine different characters in each of the 23 main missions. The player then has to complete tasks in the various corridor areas either in a larger group or only in pairs. For example, demanding protection money from shopkeepers, freeing captured warriors , spraying graffiti of enemy gangs with your own tags or killing leaders of other gangs. The locations of the individual missions are very varied, as each territory of the different gangs looks different.

The course of the game of the individual missions is very freely structured and the player can solve a task in different ways: simply run across the main street to get to the destination, but this can be noticed by enemy gangs or the police. Or as an alternative: sneaking through the city hidden through backyards and over roofs. All missions can be done alone or with a second player. The screen is split in two-player mode . But if both characters are close enough to each other, both can be seen on the complete screen. The game also offers elements from strategy games , so the player can give the computer-controlled accomplices instructions such as: distribute, all together, attack and the like. In addition to the main missions, the game also offers mini-games that can be played alone or in pairs:

  • 1on1 (one against one: 1P , VS )
  • War party (two gangs of five men against each other: 1P , COOP , VS )
  • Army-Ing (two gangs of nine men against each other: 1P , COOP , VS )
  • Survival (one against an infinite number of opponents, who survives the longest ?: 1P , VS )
  • Have Mercy ( Capture the Flag Variant: VS )
  • Burner Battle (Graffiti Competition: 1P , VS )
  • Battle Royal (two gear rings towards each other on a high-rise building roof: 1P , COOP , VS )
  • Wheels of Steel (wheelchair race: 1P , VS )
1P = single player against CPU; COOP = two player against CPU; VS = two players against each other
