from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thea de Haas (born October 30, 1885 in Berlin ; † May 2, 1976 in Nazza ) was a German painter and writer .

Thea de Haas was born in Berlin in 1885 as the daughter of a major and a writer. After the death of her father and the youngest sister, Thea came to Eisenach with her mother and a sister . After marrying the Protestant pastor Rudolf de Haas, stays in Koblenz and Bruges followed . In December 1911 her husband was transferred to Nazza in the Wartburg district . Here she developed a warm relationship with the villagers. In 1914 the couple went on a second trip to Africa (after their honeymoon). Due to the outbreak of the First World War , Thea de Haas did not return to her homeland until seven years later. She described the African experiences in her books Ursel travels to Africa and Jungle house and steppe tent . The former was placed on the list of literature to be segregated in 1946 by the German Administration for Public Education in the Soviet occupation zone.

A kindergarten has been named after her in Nazza since 1992. Many of her paintings are in the possession of Nazza families; she also furnished the church of the community with an altarpiece.
