Theater lexicon

The theater lexicon is a two-volume theater science lexicon on authors , directors , actors , dramaturges , stage designers , critics , epochs, ensembles , characters, forms of play, terms, theories of German-language theater.

The two volumes were edited by Curt Bernd Sucher . The first volume, which was published in two editions, comprises 1650 articles on authors, directors, actors, dramaturges, stage designers, critics mainly from the 19th and 20th centuries, with a focus after 1945, from Herbert Achternbusch to Marina Ivanovna Zwetajewa .

The second volume provides information in 500 articles about the epochs of theater art from antiquity to today, about famous ensembles, about stage characters, technical terms as well as historical and current forms of play. He also opens up theater theory on the basis of important basic works from the poetics of Aristotle to Artaud , Stanislawski , Brecht and Genet .
