Johann Gebhard Wölfle (born April 20, 1848 in Bizau , Vorarlberg ; † January 22, 1904 there ) was an Austrian dialect poet and photographer.

biography

Wölfles parents supported their only child with plenty of reading material from an early age. He learned the carpentry trade from his uncle. In 1885 he married his neighbor Maria Katharina Meusburger, five of eight children survived. In addition to agriculture and carpentry, he was also interested in physics , especially mechanics . His occupation was still mentioned in 1904 as a well maker , and he was one of the first photographers in the Bregenz Forest. Wölfles strength, however, was his humor and his language the dialect - he recognized this when he was supposed to write the text for the chants of a planned Passion Play.

Theater Association Bizau

In 1864, Wölfle founded Vorarlberg's first amateur theater group , the Bizau Theater Association , which still exists today . His literary work includes numerous poems and tales in the Bregenzerwald dialect . In 1866 Wölfle took over the management of the theater together with Johann Michael Feuerstein. In 1887 " the robbers " and in 1888 " Wilhelm Tell " are performed by Friedrich von Schiller . In 1893, the Bizauer Theaterverein first performed a work by Wölfles, "Dächlars Hannes".

"Langewil hea, that's stupid"

Amazing not only what he wrote, but what he had read, including the dramas by Shakespeare , Lessing , Schiller and Goethe and many other important works such as B. the Nibelungenlied . He borrowed books and a. by Franz Xaver Moosmann or in the reading club in Bezau , which was founded by Franz Michael Felder . Envious and opponents prevented Wölfle from getting to know the writer Felder, but he knew all of his works.

Opening of the Wälderbahn

Wölfle held up the flag of modernity in the Bregenzerwald for decades, also in the political and cultural sense, and in 1902 wrote a poem to mark the opening of the Wälderbahn, hopefully of the dawn of a new era that would have to lead to an examination of what had been delivered: “But what with dam Nüo si nüd vorreyt, weod bessor widor uff d'Sito g'leit. "(But what is not compatible with the new is better put on the side) and:" d'Zuokumpft rumplot with G'wault therefore "(The future rumbles with violence). Also from this poem comes: "Meor Ehrod das Ault, and greet the Nü, and blibot üs sealb and dr Hoamat trü." ("We honor the old, welcome the new and remain true to ourselves and our homeland.") Today it is often seen as an expression of the self-image of the entire Bregenzerwald region .
