Theater du pain
The theater du pain is a German-language absurd music theater in the border area between Neo-Dadaism and Surrealism . It was founded in 1984 in Paderborn , today it operates from Bremen .

Breach of consensus as a declaration of the world
Morality, convention, goals in life are forces of order that theater du pain breaks through by irritating familiar viewing habits. Subversive and inappropriate actions on stage undermine the consensus between artists and audience in order to transform it into a new construction of reality. The appearance of the actors in dark suits and white shirts promises adaptation to higher dress and behavioral orders and dissolves into drastic applications of electric meat knives and chainsaws, hit music and the theory of relativity. The categories of sense and nonsense blur in unpredictable deeds and abrupt pauses in order to naturally pursue the question of whether light emitted in the direction of travel will arrive earlier. A form of explaining the world, which makes use of the conscious and the unconscious and shows the things "that one can better leave alone." (Mateng Pollkläsener)

Actions & Performances
In addition to the programs for the stage, theater du pain has carried the absurd into public space several times with performances. In 1988 a porbeagle was shown the city of Freiburg. In the understanding of the theater du pain, the fish is a symbol of the unconscious and uncontrollable. In 2005, Bremen received a visit from a frozen swordfish. During the Breminale cultural festival, the artists had a tuna watch TV in a trailer for five days.
