Thelocactus garciae is a species of Thelocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the Mexican gardener Juan A. Garcia Luna at the Cante Botanical Garden San Miguel de Allende Mexico.
description
Thelocactus garciae grows individually or in smaller groups and has a body up to 8 centimeters high with a diameter of up to 12 centimeters. The 8 to 13 ribs are completely dissolved in warts, which are arranged in a spiral and are 1.5 centimeters high and wide at the base. The areoles are 3 to 4 millimeters long and sit in the more flowered part on the inside of the warts. The radial spines are divided into two types: 7 heavy, needle-shaped spread on the lower half of the areoles and 7 fine needle-like, almost bristle-shaped spread on the upper half of the areoles. The 4 central spines are between 3 and 6.7 inches long. The upper ones are matt gray to brownish and partly curved downwards.
The flowers are 3 to 4 inches long and up to 5.5 inches wide. The flower color varies between pale translucent pink, pink, pink with a darker central stripe and, more rarely, pale translucent cream color. The fruits are purple-red and 2 inches long and 1.3 inches wide. They have triangular scales and spring up dry. The seeds are large, 2 millimeters long and up to 5 millimeters thick. They are irregularly curved with a black, humped testa .
