Thelocactus lausseri is a species of the genus Thelocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the nursery owner and discoverer Alfons Lausser from Poppenricht .

description

Thelocactus lausseri grows solitary, spherical or short elongated and has a 7 to 10 centimeter high, gray-green body with a diameter of 5 to 8.5 centimeters. The 8 ribs are arranged in a slightly spiral shape. The areoles are without glands and about 5 to 6 millimeters in diameter. The warts are rounded, about 7 to 9 millimeters in diameter and 8 to 12 millimeters high. The 20 to 25 radial spines are just 18 to 25 millimeters long and silver-white to yellowish in color. The 4 (very rarely 6) central spines are 6 to 10 centimeters long, ocher yellow to greyish, straight or slightly curved and needle-shaped.

The flowers are 2.5 to 4.4 centimeters long and wide and vary in color from whitish to light pink with a darker central stripe. The fruits have scales and spring up dry. The seeds are 2 millimeters long and thick.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Thelocactus lausseri is endemic to the Mexican state of Coahuila in the Sierra de las Ovejas.

It was first described in 1986 by Jan Říha & Josef Busek .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data deposited.
