Theo Abazis

Theo Abazis (born July 15, 1967 in Athens , Greece ) is a Greek composer and theater director.

Life

Theo Abazis studied piano and music theory at the National Conservatory in Athens . In 1987 he went to the Netherlands. From 1989 to 1993 he studied conducting and composition at the Utrecht Conservatory . He studied composition with Henk Alkema and conducting with David Porcelijn (* 1947) and Kenneth Montgomery (* 1943). During this time he worked with the local theater academy on musical theater productions and seminars. In 1991 he received a three-year scholarship from the Alexander Onassis Foundation and studied composition with Tristan Keuris until 1993 . In 1993 his ballet Anathema was premiered by the Stuttgart State Ballet in a choreography by Roberto de Oliveira . From 1993 to 1995 he studied composition with Dimitri Terzakis at the Bern Conservatory . In 1995 the Orfeas ballet was premiered , again by the Stuttgart State Ballet in a choreography by Roberto de Oliveira. His composition Algos was selected in 1997 for a performance in the annual Young Composers Project of the Netherlands Ballet Orchestra . In the same year he founded the Music Theater Group Amsterdam.

From 2004 to 2010 he was Treasurer, General Secretary and Vice President of the Greek Center of the International Theater Institute . He is the assistant artistic director of the National Theater in Athens. From 2010 to 2012 he was artistic director of the City and Regional Theater Kavala . From 2012 to 2015 he was the artistic director of the Patras Municipal and Regional Theater .
