Theo Lauber

Theo Lauber (born November 22, 1914 in Neuburg an der Donau ; † August 17, 1999 ) was a German local politician.

Career

Lauber was born the son of the judiciary Theodor Lauber and grew up in the upper old town of Neuburg. In 1933 he passed the Abitur at the Humanistic Gymnasium . Due to the dissolution of the regional court in Neuburg, the family moved to Augsburg in 1933 . He studied law and did military service during the Second World War. In 1946 he settled in Augsburg as a lawyer.

On March 27, 1960 he was elected as a candidate of the Free Voters for Lord Mayor of the city that was independent until the regional reform in 1972 , then the Great District Town of Neuburg ad Donau and was in office from May 1, 1960 to April 30, 1984.

During Lauber's tenure, the city's population grew from approx. 17,000 to approx. 25,000 through incorporation in the course of the regional reform and the consistent settlement of industry and commerce. During this time, the city also developed into a cultural center in the region. The most important point in his track record: he carried out the extensive renovation of the city center, which is still in an impressive state today, largely with state funding. Lauber was a popular mayor not only because of his local political successes, but also because of his balancing and people-oriented nature.
