Theo Meier

Theo Meier , full name Theophil Albert Meier , also Meier-Peter (born June 21, 1919 in Basel ; † May 30, 2010 in Lausen BL ), entitled to live in Bachenbülach and Lausen BL, was a Swiss politician (FDP) .

Life

Theo Meier, son of the merchant Gottlieb Meier and Margrit nee Rohr, graduated from the cantonal commercial school in Basel in 1938 before studying economics at the University of Basel , which he completed in 1949 with a dissertation on the subject of “The craft in the canton of Basel- Landscape » - published in 1950 in the series « Basler Betriebswirtschaftliche Studien » - graduated.

From 1954 to 1967 he was head of human resources and head of the Liestal headquarters of the Basellandschaftliche Kantonalbank . Theo Meier - he married Louise, born Peter in 1948 - died on May 30, 2010 a few weeks before he was 91 in Lausen, BL.

Political career

Theo Meier - he joined the FDP - initially represented his party from 1947 to 1967 in the district administrator , which he also chaired between 1960 and 1961. In 1967 he was elected to the government council of the canton of Basel-Landschaft , of which he was a member until 1983. There he was in charge of the finance and church administration. During his term of office, the total revision of the Tax Act in 1974 and that of the Civil Servants Act in 1978 as well as the drafting of a new Church and Financial Budget Act were implemented.

In addition, Meier initiated and led seminars for Swiss government councilors and was President of the Bibliotheca Afghanica Foundation of the Afghanistan Institute in Liestal.
