Theo Prosel (born May 4, 1889 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary , † January 13, 1955 in Munich ) was an Austrian poet , humorist and cabaret artist .

Life

Theo Prosel was captured by Russia during World War I , where he discovered his talent for poetry. After the war he came to Munich to recite his poems. He had his first engagement with Karl Valentin and from 1920 appeared regularly with Kathi Kobus in Simplicissimus , which he took over from Adolf Gondrell in 1935 as a tenant and in 1941 as a buyer .

After the Simplicissimus was destroyed by an explosive bomb in 1944, Prosel opened the New Simpl am Platzl in 1946 and continued - initially very successfully - the tradition of literary cabaret. After the currency reform , the guests stayed away, in 1950 Prosel had to file for bankruptcy.

Prosel wrote, among other things, the text for the well-known Viennese song I have the beautiful Maderln net invented (music: Ludwig Schmidseder ) for the film Der ungetreue Eckehart (1939) and played a role in Der Ochse von Kulm (DEFA, 1954). The city of Munich dedicated a street to Theo Prosel, the "Theo-Prosel-Weg". His grave was in the Munich North Cemetery (132-A-13).
