Theodor Wittenbrink (born January 15, 1920 , † April 9, 1986 ) was a German boxing functionary and organizer.

Life

As a soldier, Wittenbrink suffered a skull injury at the age of 20, which led to symptoms of paralysis in his arms and legs. He worked  as an innkeeper in Hamburg and was involved in a professional boxing event for the first time in 1961. In the following years he organized boxing matches, especially in northern Germany, with Karl Mildenberger , Jürgen Blin , Werner Mundt and Lothar Abend , among others . In 1964, after the death of Reinhold Tomfort, Wittenbrink took over his boxing training group, whose athletes included Peter Weiland , who became European heavyweight champion in 1969 as manager under Wittenbrink. Wittenbrink served as chairman of the Association of German Professional Boxers from 1971 . During his tenure, Eckhard Dagge became the second German after Max Schmeling to become world boxing champion. In 1984 Wittenbrink resigned from his position as BDB chairman for health reasons, and was succeeded by Klaus-Peter Kohl . Wittenbrink was appointed honorary president of the BDB.

When at the end of March 1985 the organizer of a professional boxing evening in Dortmund was  unable to pay out the agreed exchanges for the fighters, Wittenbrink collected a six-figure sum from among the spectators in the Westfalenhalle through “a one-time donation campaign” ( Die Welt , April 1, 1985) . Wittenbrink owed his nickname "Goldfinger" to his preference for gold rings that he wore on his fingers.

Wittenbrink died of lung cancer.
