Theobald Rieth

Theobald Rieth SJ (born April 14, 1926 in Limburg an der Lahn ; † November 23, 2014 in Mindelheim ) was a German Jesuit priest .

Career

Rieth grew up in Limburg an der Lahn. As a teenager he was a member of the Hitler Youth and volunteered for the Wehrmacht . Towards the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the Soviets. In 1947 he joined the Jesuits. In 1949 he studied philosophy in Belgium. In the following years he worked as a teacher for sports and French in a Catholic boarding school in Bad Godesberg. This was followed by a degree in Catholic theology. He later worked in the training of development workers and at Misereor . In the 1960s he was a student pastor in Bremen.

He was the initiator of the Christians for Europe initiative . In 2004 he founded the "Bridges to the Future" foundation in Aachen. From 2008 until his death in 2014 he lived in Lohhof near Mindelheim.
