Life

Theodoor Willem Johannes Juynboll was the son of Gualterus Johannes Juynboll and his wife Catharina Johanna Pla. He lost his mother at the age of five. A few years later he found a new caregiver in his stepmother Johanna Deel. His parents moved to The Hague , where he attended Latin school. He then studied at the University of Leiden , where he matriculated on August 20, 1821 with the subjects of theology and Semitic languages. His formative teachers were Hendrik Arent Hamaker (1789–1835) and Johannes Henricus van der Palm . After making a name for himself as a student with the work Commentatio de causis, quare regnum Judae diutius perstiterit quam regnum Israël (Löwen 1824), he received his doctorate on June 22, 1828 with the treatise Disputatio de Amoso ​​ejusque scriptis ac veteribus eorum interpretibus, pars great for a doctorate in theology.

In 1840 he was appointed professor of oriental languages ​​and Hebrew history at the University of Groningen by royal resolution . He began this task on March 25, 1841 with the speech de gente Sammaritano . On March 4, 1845, he received an honorary doctorate in philosophy from the Senate of the Groningen University. On January 7, 1845, he was appointed professor at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Leiden, with a teaching position for the oriental languages ​​Arabic, Chaldean, Syriac and Hebrew.
