from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Theodor Evander (born March 24, 1539 in Eisenach , † 1620 in Hohenkirchen ) was a Protestant pastor.

Evander, whose German name is "Gutmann", studied theology in Jena and Wittenberg . After a first pastor's position in Melborn, he deepened his theological knowledge by visiting the University of Jena again before he became pastor in Hohenkirchen in 1567 and in the Herrenhof branch church on the 4th Sunday after Easter . He stayed there for 53 years until his death.

Thanks to Evander's initiative, the Hohenkirchen church tower was built from 1576 to 1579, as well as the construction of a girls' school and the purchase of an organ for the church. His epitaph has been preserved in the church choir .
