Theodor Iordăchescu (born August 1, 1884 in Galați , † July 31, 1958 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian politician of the Romanian Workers' Party PMR (Partidul Muncitoresc Român) , who was among other things Minister for Public Works between 1947 and 1949.

Life

Iordăchescu attended high school and joined the labor movement in 1904 and was an active member of the trade union in his hometown Galați . In the following years he worked as publisher, journalist and editor-in-chief of the newspapers România Muncitoare , Lupta and Socialismul and at the same time was involved between 1908 and 1916 as a member of the Socialist Youth (Tineretului Socialist) . Because of his political activities, he was imprisoned from December 13, 1918 to 1920 and then worked again as a journalist. In 1946 he joined the social democratic party PSDR (Partidului Social-Democrat Român) and became its general secretary. In this role he took an active part in the establishment of the United Workers Front (Frontului Unic Muncitoresc) , which formed the PSDR on May 1, 1946 together with the then Romanian Communist Party PCdR (Partidul Comunist din România) . On January 7, 1946 he became a member of the administrative board of the public company Editura de Stat . From September 20 to December 30, 1947, he served as Undersecretary of State for Administrative Affairs in the Ministry of the Interior.

On November 8, 1947 Iordăchescu became Minister of Public Works (Ministrul lucrărilor publice) and held this post until September 24, 1949. After the merger of PSDR and PCdR to form the Romanian Workers' Party PMR (Partidul Muncitoresc Român) in February 1948, he joined the PMR at. Iordăchescu was then elected a member of the Central Committee of the PMR at the founding party congress , the Sixth Party Congress of the PMR (February 21-23, 1948) and was a member of this until his death on July 31, 1958. At the same time he became a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee and was a member of this body until May 27, 1952. In 1948 he became a member of the Grand National Assembly (Marea Adunare Națională) for the first time and belonged to it until his death in 1958. He also served from 1949 to 1951 as a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Committee for Marxism-Leninism and was also a member of the People's Council of Bucharest between 1950 and 1952 . On October 4, 1955, he became President of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly.

Iordăchescu has received several awards for his services and received, among other things, the Star of the People's Republic of Romania, Second Class (Ordinul Steaua Republicii Populare Române) in 1948 , the Order of Labor Second Class (Ordinul Muncii) and the Order of Defense of the Fatherland (Ordinul Apărarea Patriei) in 1949 .
