Theodor Kotulla

Theodor Kotulla (born August 20, 1928 in Królewska Huta (Königshütte O / S.), Today Chorzów , Poland ; † October 20, 2001 in Munich ) was a German director and screenwriter.

Live and act

In 1946 the son of an organist went to the zones of Germany occupied by the Western Allies . Without a degree, he studied journalism, German and philosophy at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster .

After the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany, he wrote film and literary reviews since 1952. He also wrote articles for the magazine Filmkritik, founded in 1957 . In 1962 he wrote his first screenplay for the television film The 18th Birthday . Five years later he made his first film with Bresson, for example . For this documentary he received the Federal Film Prize . In 1968 he made his debut as a feature film director with Until the Happy End . For the short film Before the Enemy from the same year he was again awarded the Federal Film Prize.
